How can we make potable water for everyone?
Membrane technology
Nitrate contamination of water is a widespread problem. It’s even more of a problem when it contaminates groundwater that is meant to become drinking water. The presence of nitrates in drinking water can pose serious health risks such as infantile methemoglobinemia. Nitrates are very soluble and do not bind to soils, and therefore they are able to migrate into groundwater sources.
For drinking water the WHO states that the maximum allowed nitrate concentration is 45 mg/l. In case of higher concentrations the treatment options are either nitrate removal or nitrate reduction. Nitrate removal can be managed by an electrodialysis process. This process requires special monovalent ion exchange membranes.
Based on our coating technology, ion exchange membranes are being developed for a variety of applications and industries. We focus on a high volume supply of cost effective e-separation membranes that enable emerging membrane processes.
