How to store the worlds explosive data generation?
Information recording technology
Recent developments caused an exponential increase in the quantity of data generated worldwide. As the use of accumulated big data rapidly increases, so does the need for reliable and cost effective long term storage for future use. Valuable data should be stored safely and securely with a minimal risk for data damage or loss due to system failures, viruses and cyber attacks. The use of magnetic tape is gaining in popularity thanks to its storage capacity, portability, energy efficiency, cost of ownership and the fact that it can hold data without problems for years.
In the development and manufacturing of Fujifilm’s LTO (Linear Tape Open) data cartridges, 3 core technologies were combined: nano particle technology, nano dispersion technology and high precision coating technology. The magnetic tapes use BaFe magnetic particles, offering outstanding recording and retrieval performance for long-term storage. The magnetic properties remain stable when micronized, and it enables good signal quality over a wide frequency range.
High density digital recording requires extremely thin recording layers. Nanocubic technology allows the production of nanometer-scale ultra thin coatings. Combined with plate-shaped BaFe particles and Fujifilm’s experience in nano-dispersion technology and high precision coating, we create magnetic tape cartridges with low noise and excellent storage characteristics.
